BANNERALL

Polished Map and Wildlife

Roads now follow the ground they are laid on, meet cleanly where they cross, and read as a cart track rather than a highway. Plus 10 more changes.

New

  • Roads now follow the ground they are laid on, meet cleanly where they cross, and read as a cart track rather than a highway.
  • Lakes and coastlines now shelve from pale shallows into deep water instead of ending at a hard edge, and the surface drifts gently instead of sitting frozen.
  • Castles, towns, ruins, armies and trees now cast a soft shadow onto the ground they stand on, so the board reads as a place rather than pieces laid on a painting.
  • Every faction's siege engines finally look like actual siege engines on the map, instead of a soldier standing in for one.
  • Towns and villages on the map now have a different, more detailed appearance depending on how large they've grown.
  • Ruins now look different depending on their theme and how decayed they are, temples and boats come in a few different appearances, and compendium entries show a picture of the location.
  • Temples and rowboats on the map are now hand-painted low-poly models instead of realistic Synty art, matching the rest of the board.
  • Every faction's capital city — and the neutral seat a city becomes when its ruler is defeated — now renders as a real enclosed castle with a keep, walls, corner towers, and a gatehouse, instead of a placeholder.
  • Ten kinds of wildlife now live on the board — crows, gulls, songbirds, bats, deer, boar, sheep, hares, ducks and a heron on the water — and unlike the single bird and the frozen deer they replace, every one of them moves.

Fixed

  • Roads on the 3D board now look like a real dirt path instead of a pale grey smear.
  • Mystic-site temple statues are properly sized and no longer stand on a stray base plate; ambient sheep, boars and herons are smaller and now wander around instead of standing still; the odd glowing motes drifting near wildlife are turned off; trees and rocks across the board have a new hand-painted look.
